There is no place in the hospital, the patients are going back to the door!

Every day new records are being set in the country for coronavirus infection and death. Hospitals are being forced to return patients in bed crises. As a result, the cry for ICU and the general beds has started. Since Eid, there has been a crisis in general beds and ICUs in hospitals. In the last three days, it has taken a more serious shape. At present, more than two hundred patients from outside Dhaka are coming to the capital every day for ICU. The number of patients coming for normal bed is several times more. Patients have to wait a long time for ICU. Only two beds are being emptied every day. The bed is emptied only when a patient recovers or dies.

In this situation, the relatives are walking with the patients at the door of the hospital. There is no place in the hospital to survive from Corona's grasp.

Also on Thursday, a large number of patients were seen rushing from one hospital to another without getting beds in different hospitals. Many patients have returned home as they could not be admitted at the end. To handle the situation, the hospital authorities have been forced to issue a notification stating that there are no 'seats vacant in front of the hospital.

Director-General of the Department of Health, Prof. ABM Khurshid Alam told Bangladesh Pratidin that ‘although the patient pressure has decreased in the border western districts, the rate of corona infection has gone up in the eastern and central districts. Field hospitals are being set up to cope with patient stress. I hope to be able to open the field hospital prepared at the convention center of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University by Sunday. '

He added, "The health department will not set up separate field hospitals in districts outside Dhaka." Because it will be difficult for us to provide logistical support and manpower support. Therefore, the districts have been approved to arrange field hospitals by contacting the local medical college or clinic as per the need if the patient's pressure increases. '

According to the Department of Health, 15 thousand 261 people were infected with coronavirus in the country yesterday, 239 people died. Of the 13 government hospitals in Dhaka, 11 had no ICU beds yesterday. Kuwait Bangladesh Maitri Hospital had three empty out of 139 ordinary beds. Patients were admitted in 26 beds of ICU. Kurmitola General Hospital has 285 general beds, with an additional 83 patients. Patients were admitted in 10 ICUs. Patients are admitted in all 20 ICUs of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. 711 patients were admitted as against 605 ordinary beds. Patients are returning as there are no beds in the hospital.

Moazzem Ali of Satkhira was undergoing treatment at Gazi Medical College Hospital in Khulna for the last six days. Doctors referred him to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated there. But the danger has increased after coming to Dhaka. Even if you go to the door of the hospital with the critically ill patient, the bed does not match. He eventually died on the road.

Moazzem Ali’s brother Shoaib Ali said, ‘Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital, Mugda Hospital did not get an ICU. Later I came to Dhaka Medical. I left my brother in the ambulance and went to the hospital to find a seat. I didn't even get a seat, and when I came back I didn't find my brother alive. He died at the hospital.

Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Brigadier General Nazmul Haque said, "We are not able to admit all the patients at the rate at which they are coming." Because Kovid patients need oxygen. We have 650 beds with an oxygen connections. It is becoming difficult for us to provide oxygen to the extra patients who are admitted. That is why we are not admitting new patients unless the patient is released. In addition to regular beds, the number of patients waiting for ICU has increased several times.

The number of patients infected with coronavirus is breaking records every day since the end of Eid holidays. In the meantime, the hospitals are struggling to cope with the pressure even after admitting extra patients to the beds. The ICU bed crisis has been intense for so long. Now big hospitals like Magda General Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital are stopping the admission of patients due to the general bed crisis. Relatives are not getting a bed even after visiting one hospital after another with the patient, death is increasing.

Patients have been receiving treatment at Magda Medical College Hospital since the beginning of corona infection in the country. The hospital is not admitting patients due to bed crises. Many patients have returned to the hospital since last Wednesday. Magda General Hospital Director. Asim Kumar Nath said, ‘Patient pressure has increased over the last few days. It has been difficult to admit new patients since last Tuesday. Every day we can release 30-40 patients, but more than 100 patients are coming for admission. Patients are being returned as the beds are not empty. There are 320 corona patients in our hospital. If we admit more patients at the moment, many of the patients in our hospital will not get enough oxygen. As a result, it is not possible to admit new patients at the moment.

According to the Department of Health, the government hospital in the capital had 1,099 vacancies as against 3,636 ordinary beds. Of the 361 ICU beds, 18 were vacant. However, the hospitals are not able to admit the same number of patients with these beds. Because many beds do not have central oxygen or high flow oxygen system. The private hospital in Dhaka has 2,031 general beds, of which 505 patients were admitted. It has also become difficult to get ICU in private hospitals. Of the 506 beds in private hospitals, 61 were vacant, according to the health department.

Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin, director of the DNCC Kavid Dedicated Hospital, told Bangladesh Pratidin that ‘there is a lot of patient pressure in the hospital. At 8 am on Thursday, 545 patients were admitted. Of these, 204 are undergoing treatment in ICU, 53 in general bed and the rest in SDU. Every day innumerable patients are coming to the hospital for admission. Last Wednesday 111 patients were reported, out of which 70 patients we admitted. Crisis patients are coming the most. The ICU bed is over by noon. There is no chance of patient admission after that. 'He added,' Our 500 beds are under central oxygen and the remaining 500 cylinders are under oxygen. Less critical patients are treated with these cylinders in an oxygen support bed.
